COALICION PRO-DERECHOS DE LOS INMIGRANTES
EN EL AREA DE DANBURY

DANBURY AREA COALITION FOR THE RIGHTS OF IMMIGRANTS

AREA GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS UNITE TO FORM DACORIM

On May 3, 2005 , after a number of meetings and discussions, a diverse group of area residents formed the Coalición Pro-Derechos de los Inmigrantes en el Area de Danbury (Danbury Area Coalition for the Rights of Immigrants--DACORIM). Mr. Wilson Hernandez was elected as the Chairman.

DACORIM was born out of the urgent need to protect the civil rights of all immigrants in the Danbury area due to what is perceived to be the poor management of the immigrant issue by the local authorities. The members of DACORIM intend to channel all of the needs of the immigrant community through a unified body that will demand respect for the civil rights of all immigrants, regardless of their origin or legal status in this country.

DACORIM plans to carry out its mission by sponsoring forums, talks, seminars and any other activities, as necessary and/or desirable, destined to supporting and encouraging the education of the immigrant and non-immigrant communities. DACORIM wants to find ways to positively channel any negative feelings against immigrants in our community. The goal is to build a productive exchange among the different communities, our local government and public opinion.

DACORIM sees with good eyes the efforts that our local elected officials have undertaken to try to resolve the sporting needs of our Ecuadorian brothers. We should not forget, however, that our communities have additional needs that should be addressed as well. DACORIM declares that it is now in permanent session and ready to apply pressure by means of any mechanism prescribed within the law in order to defend the civil rights of our communities.

DACORIM’s membership currently surpasses 150 individuals of all backgrounds, a figure which is expanding daily. Membership to DACORIM is open to anyone who wants to work to protect the rights of all immigrants in the Danbury area.
